Challenge yourself to go further & join the Namosi Marathon 2023 for Cure Kids Fiji

Cure Kids Fiji : Our Mission – To transform the health of children in Fiji.

Key Health Issues

Cure Kids Fiji began in 2006. Focusing on two health priorities: preventing rheumatic heart disease (RHD) and enabling access to oxygen.

1. Prevent Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) : Fiji has one of the highest rates of Acute Rheumatic Fever and subsequently RHD. Official statistics indicate 1 child in every classroom could be afflicted with RHD. Approximately 60 RHD related deaths per year in Fiji. Our Prevention and Control Programme for Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in Fiji seeks to: improve early diagnosis and prevent multiple episodes of Rheumatic Fever (RF) and support the Fiji MHMS implement activities to combat Rheumatic Heart Disease and reduce the burden of deaths and disease.

2. Enable sustainable access to oxygen : Each year in Fiji, approximately 200 children under 5 years of age die from pneumonia and new-born illness. Using oxygen to treat pneumonia in children reduces death by 35%. Since 2016, Cure Kids has worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to enable sustainable access to oxygen at healthcare centers around Fiji to manage hypoxemia in children with pneumonia and other serious respiratory conditions. “no child should die for lack of access to oxygen”
